Known not so much by a positional title as a general descriptive name, the role of loonies is to carve a hole in opposing defensive lines - literally. Armed with chainsaws, they present a serious threat to the well-being of even the most heavily-armoured players, although carrying a running chainsaw around a Blood Bowl pitch isn't great for the medical insurance premiums, they are inevitably sent off at the earliest opportunity by the referee (usually when the chainsaw needs refuelling) and it sometimes seems that almost as many loonies fall foul of their chainsaws as opponents. Still, the crowds love them.
Most teams don't consider loonies versatile - or durable - enough to keep them permanently on the books, but a number of Star Players who specialise in chainsaw use make their services widely available to those teams in search of a little extra (jagged, rotating) edge.
